SPECIALIZED REHABILITATION UNITS NEEDS TO BE SET UP
Orthopedic and Spinal Injury Center: The Foundation often gets animals who have met with accidents. With special care and medical support, they can again lead a normal life. Some old dogs, especially breeds such as Labradors/German Shepherds, suffer from severe arthritis, which also needs specialized care and treatment.
But since the Foundation doesn't have a proper rehabilitation centre, we have to transport the critical patients often to other diagnostic centers and clinics for diverse treatment procedures. Transporting critical patients often becomes life-threatening.
Click here to see our achievements in this field with limited facilities and resources.
Terminal illness - Organ Failure Treatment Center: These are extremely critical issues but can be treated with proper medical facilities such as blood transfusion, dialysis, advance surgical methods etc. These patients need to be monitored under specialised medical care. We need a proper setup for this purpose.
Terminal illness - Cancer Care Center: This is another critical illness that needs specialized medical and diagnostic setup.
Freedom from the fear of eviction: The lease of the present shelter is expiring shortly. But even if we shift to another temporary shelter, the threat of being evicted from there on a short notice after the expiry of the lease will always be there.
Freedom from monthly rent: The Foundation pays a hefty amount as rent every month. A permanent place will help us to use this monthly outflow of funds for animal welfare activities.
Freedom from high maintenance: As per the rent agreement, the construction of the shelter has to be temporary in nature. This means expensive regular maintenance and also no chance of improving/adding to the infrastructure.
An eco-friendly shelter:We want to install a solar power plant and a water harvesting system to reduce electricity and water costs, and ensure regular and adequate water supply to the shelter to ensure good hygiene level.
Expansion of Services: Veterinary care is expensive. We want to open a small Out Patient Department with permanent veterinarians to treat non-resident animals, and a permanent Sterilization Unit to run the Animal Birth Control programme.
PHASE I - Procurement of Land :The minimum area of land we need is 2,000 square yards in and around Delhi and the National Capital Region. This is the most challenging part since land in a congested city such as Delhi is prohibitively expensive.
PHASE II - Construction of the Rehabilitation Center:1. Separate places to keep old, abandoned, orphan puppies and kittens and handicapped animals.
2. An Orthopedic and Spinal Injury Unit with facility for physiotherapy, hydro-therapy etc.
3. An Out Patient Department.
4. Fully equipped Operation Theatres to conduct various surgeries including Animal Birth Control Programme.
PHASE III - Ambulance Service: Procurement of pick-up vans and Ambulances with life-support system.
